Hippopotamus
Puppet Printable puppets
We
sure do love making puppets! This hippopotamus printable puppet template joins
the rank of our chatty little puppets!
We
have shared quite a few of them with your already (both free and paid) – the
elephant puppet for example would work great as a buddy to this one. Can’t you
just hear all the funny conversations these two puppets would have when in
control by your kids? Oh so fun!
Ready
to make your own puppet? Just print our template and have some fun with it.
How
to use Hippopotamus Puppet Printable Template
What
you need:
our
printable template (you can grab this one at the end of this tutorial, we also
have a huge set of puppets available as a bundle)
heavier
print paper (preferred, although regular print paper will work well too)
scissors
glue
scoring
tool
coloring
supplies
See
the Step by Step Tutorial
Print
out the template – there are two pages and you will need them both. We do
recommend printing on heavier print paper / card stock as it will make the
puppet more durable, but regular print paper will work out well
Color
the puppet template. On the page with the face, you only need to color in the
middle third with the face design as other two thirds won’t be visible once the
puppet is assembled.
We
like to color our puppets with markers as this makes them really stand out –
crayons or colored pencils also work. We made our hippopotamus gray-blue.
Also
color the accessories (ears). Cut out a pair of ears and the teeth.
You
can make the teeth slightly yellow or just leave them white.
Return
to the first sheet.
Fold
along all the dashed lines
Run a
craft stick (or similar) across the folds to make them crisper. This will make
the folding way easier.
Unfold
after folding each fold.
Close
it up by folding the third on the other side on top of the one with the word
glue.
Press
firmly for the glue to set (you can even weight it with a book, waiting will be
easier that way).
Once
the glue is dry, gold along the dashed lines to get a M shape
Your
Hippopotamus Puppet is almost done – just add the ears and teeth.
Take
the ears, fold along the dashed line separating the ear and rectangle – apply
glue and stick on the head.
Do
the same with teeth – fold along the dashed line – but glue them inside the
mouth.
Slip
your fingers into the openings and chat away!
